It helps to strengthen the sidewall rubber so that it can resist damage from pressing against the wheel flange. The tire tread shoulder areas have been designed with trumpet grooves which are indentations that have been optimized for water and mud flow, helping speed up the process of expelling water and giving you exceptional grip.
